Suzanne Wallace Mears
Kiln Formed Glass

Artist's Statement - "For forty years I've concentrated on ceramics and painting. In the 1980's, I was showing with Joanne Lyon Gallery in Aspen when Dale Chihuly and the contemporary glass movement hit with full force.  I thought their work was amazing, but wasn't interested in glass at that time.  So it surprised me that in 2002 I became interested in glass, and shortly, to the exclusion of almost everything else I became passionately enthralled with glass. Design, composition and style were set with me, but it was the technical side that I initially ignored and was forced to address. My first pieces were approximately 2 x 3 inches and I was thrilled.  But, during the last eight years I've obtained enough knowledge to do large complex pieces. My style is free, very organic, unstructured, colorful, bold, full of bubbles and contemporary.  After learning the basics, I don't follow recommended guidelines because I love the excitement of the surprise, much like I felt with ceramics."

There are many books that are easy to follow if you're interested in kiln formed glass.
