Kiln Formed Glass
Artist's Statement - "For me, working with glass is an unending opportunity and challenge. It's making something beautiful out of something flat. My process is fused glass, not blown glass. Asking you to visualize this process, it is like building a dagwood sandwich. Through the years my pieces have become increasingly larger and textural. I've moved towards sculpture and working less towards the creation of functional pieces. I build the pieces in the kiln, firing up to 1000 degrees F. Each piece takes several weeks to complete. I'm interested in transparency— the dance of light through the glass, bubbles trapped within the multiple layers, texture created from slow melting during the firing, adding to the mystery and drama of that final moment."
